LET'S TWIST AGAIN

19892019 KEX OPEN

19.00 Open doors / 19.15 Prologue / 19.30 Artistic intervention / 20.00 Epilogue – informal conclusion / 21.00 End

LET’S TWIST AGAIN refers to an exhibition in the Kunsthalle Exnergasse in 2002. Under the subtitle “If you can’t think it, dance it”, approximately 40 historical and contemporary positions from performance in Vienna were presented.

On October 23 the curators of this exhibition, Carola Dertnig and Stefanie Seibold, will hold a prologue based on the theme. Thereafter, artist Olia Sosnovskaya will freely interpret the title LET’S TWIST AGAIN with an artistic intervention in the Kunsthalle Exnergasse. The evening concludes with an epilogue as an informal finale.

Carola Dertnig, born in Innsbruck, lives and works in Vienna. She studied at the Ecolé de Beaux Art, Paris and the Academy of Applied Arts Vienna. She participated in the Whitney Independent Study Program in New York and was a guest teacher at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. She is now the chair of the Performative Arts studio / Institute of Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
Stefanie Seibold is an artist who works with performances, installations, objects, archives, video, and texts as well as curatorial projects. In her practice she is interested in rephrasing the influential rituals, gestures, and speech acts, which are applied to form subjects. Recent exhibitions: “Resist: Be modern again” at the John Hansard Gallery, Southampton, 2019. Recent publications: Censored Realities/Changing New York, Camera Austria, 2018, co-authored with Alice Maude-Roxby. She currently teaches at the Department of Sculpture and Space Strategies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

Olia Sosnovskaya is an artist, researcher, and writer based in Vienna and Minsk. She engages in text and performative and visual practices, intertwining the notions of festivity, collectivity, affect, score, and the political within post-socialist contexts and beyond. Currently she is a PhD-in-Practice candidate at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. She is co-founder of the WORK HARD! PLAY HARD! collective platform.
Olia Sosnovskaya’s artistic intervention—and the traces thereof—can also be seen on Thursday and Friday, October 24 and 25, between 11.00 am and 6.00 pm in the Kunsthalle Exnergasse.

Exhibition and Documentation: Throughout the complete duration of the 19892019 KEX OPENprogramme artistic and documentary photography and text works will be generated and presented in a continuously growing exhibition.

A cooperation with vienna poetry school: On this evening author Theodora Bauer is invited to observe the event and compose a written piece based upon it. It will be exhibited in the Kunsthalle Exnergasse from Wednesday, October 30, 2019. Theodora Bauer, born in Vienna in 1990, studied philosophy and communication science at the University of Vienna. She has published novels (Picus Verlag, Vienna) and plays (Verlag Schultz & Schirm, Vienna) and was nominated for and awarded with several prizes and scholarships. She is also the co-host of the show “literaTOUR” on the Austrian TV station ServusTV.
