Elisabeth Wildling, born 1973 in Styria, lives and works in Vienna. Her artworks explore spatial and temporal perception augmented by visual and cinematic techniques. The focus of her work is time-based visual media and projection.

Her work in the field of media art and video projection focuses on the awareness and perception of one’s own perception. She deals with the connection between the perception of space and time in our construction of the constant (unchangeable) and explores this extensive subject with installations that examine the relationship between people and their surroundings through the creation of a third pole: the technical equipment and the staged space. She employs them as intermediaries or messengers to answer the questions of how people perceive objects and spaces and how film and spatial-technical settings change our mental representations. The difference to the constant becomes clear through the staged disruption of person-environment relationships. In particular, the perception of objects and spaces, their representation – both medial and mental – and manipulation are central in her works. She mixes modes of perception to describe, for example, spatial impressions more through temporality.

For KEX Open Material she will further pursue the relationship between projection and space with performative cinematographic techniques.

An event in the framework of:

KEX Open Material
4 X 50-Minute Experiments
400 m2 and 50 minutes of space and time for art and material. In this framework invited protagonists define their approaches to materiality, the concepts and flows of material in their artistic production processes. Between the specific potentials and frictions of material and the demands of artistic intention, the focus is placed on aesthetic decisions, formal transfer, and collaborations through experimental presentation methods of different artistic positions.
KEX Open Material will take place each Wednesday between Sept. 16 and Oct. 7, 2015 in cooperation with the Kunsthalle Exnergasse.
