EAST AFRICAN FILM FESTIVAL UND EXHIBITION
As part of Muslim* Contemporary by Salam Oida, Munira Mohamud is curating a one-day film festival and exhibition focussing on East African art and culture. With a selection of two short films and an all-day exhibition on art and poetry, we want to draw attention to the central role of art in this region and show how it shapes us here in the diaspora.
Artists:
Khalil Abuzaid, Faris Cuchi (tbc), Mugtaba Hamoudah, Munira Mohamud, Alphonse Ndagijiman
Films:
Serotonin, Shehab Satti
Life on the Horn, Mo Harawe
The doors to the exhibition in the Kunsthalle Exnergasse in the WUK will be open from 15:00. Works of art by various artists will be exhibited here, dedicated to the art and poetry of East African artists. Various short films will be shown from 17:00. They provide an insight into the diverse film scene in East Africa. These works impressively show how art in the form of film contributes to telling stories from the region and making challenges visible. That will be followed by a discussion with the film director Mo Harawe. The evening rounds off with a buffet of culinary delights and musical accompaniment.
