Georgia Holz
Georgia Holzis a trained art historian and works as independent curator, author, and editor based in Vienna. As a Senior Scientist she is part of the Team at the Department for Site-Specific Art at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. From 2006–15 she was assistant curator at the Generali Foundation in Vienna, and from 2003-05 curatorial assistant at Kunsthalle Wien.
Her interest focuses on artistic approaches and curatorial gestures that attempt to question and deconstruct hegemonic narratives with the means of “parafictional” and speculative strategies. Her main curatorial aspiration is making visible the unknown and unseen such as feminist art history.
Curatorial projects include Collections and Archives – How to Deal with Things. (BIG ART/University of Applied Arts Vienna, 2021), How we want to ork – Collective Practices and Complicities of Women Artsits (das weisse haus Wien, 2019, with S. Genzmer), Verbinden/Vertreten/Verteilen/Vermitteln/Verhandeln. 70 Years Tiroler Künstler*schaft (Innsbruck 2016, with B. Mahlknecht), Speech Acts. On Speaking as Political Action (Steirischer Herbst, Forum Stadtpark, Graz, 2015; mumok Cinema, Vienna 2016), and together with Claudia Slanar I Am Another World. Artistic Authorship between Desubjectivization and Recanonization (xhibit, Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, 2013) as well as With a name like yours you might be any shape (University of California Irvine, 2012 and Tiroler Künstler*schaft, Innsbruck 2013).
