The Performance Voyage Screening Programme

The Performance Voyage is a series of international video performances created for the camera, produced annually by Finnish Artists’ Association MUU since 2011.

Kunsthalle Exnergasse will present Performance Voyage 7, curated by Heidi Kilpeläinen, Jaakko Nousiainen and Timo Soppela. The theme of Performance Voyage 7 is Protest Song Competition! Protest songs reflect great social change and accordingly, the videos featured in Performance Voyage 7 explore the political situation, frustration and the individual’s possibilities to promote social changes and address alternative ways to cope with existing circumstances. The collection contains works of Kuesti Fraun, Kim Dotty Hachmann & Steffi Simmen, Sasha Huber & Petri Saarikko, Heidi Kilpeläinen, Francois Knoetze, Timo Kokko, Paweł Korbus, Vik Laschenov, Elin Magnusson, Elena Mazzi, Iwona Ogrodzka, Ignacio Pérez Pérez, Arja Renell, Kikka Rytkönen, Julia Schicker, Jukka Silokunnas, Niko Skorpio, and Elizabeth Wurst.

The screening will continue with a selection of works from the previous 6 editions, curated by Basak Senova, who acts as a researcher at Kunsthalle Exnergasse. Titled as “Re-Voyage”, the selection aims to explore the intersection points between performance and moving image. The performative aspects of each work create situations and potentials for subjective forms of knowledge. The selection presents works by Heidi Kilpelainen, Scott Sandwich, Filippo Berta, Essi Kausalainen, Elina Brotherus, Marja Helander, Verica Kovacevska, Marika Orenius, Sasha Huber, and Magda Gebhardt.
