Open Studio: The Magic

Hyung-Min Yoon / artist in residence at KEX

Open Studio: The Magicintroduces Hyung-Min Yoon’s realized and unrealized projects during the 10-week residence at Kunsthalle Exnergasse.
Yoon’s primary research was focused on hand gestures in sacred pictures inspired by Dürer’s “Praying Hands” in the Albertina Museum. The Magic, a series of 14 silkscreen prints on antique paper was produced during the residence as a result. Unrealized proposals deal with the artist’s ongoing interest in language as well as unique experience of time in the city characterized as Viennese coffee culture.

Hyung-Min Yoon was born in Korea and lives and works in Vancouver, Canada since 2009. Yoon received her MFA from Chelsea College, University of Arts London. Beginning in 2012, the Kunsthalle Exnergasse (KEX) awards grants for artist residencies. Presently, the selection of the artists takes place in a constant cooperation with institutions and groups from the broader field of innovative artistic practices and research. KEX Residency 2013 one in cooperation with Audain Gallery, Vancouver, Canada.
