Vienna International School Visual Arts Exhibition

For more than forty years, the Visual Arts Exhibition at Vienna International School (VIS) has stood as a celebration of creativity, growth, and artistic courage.

The Visual Arts programme at Vienna International School is recognised for its strength and breadth. Over the years, students engage with a wide range of techniques — from drawing and painting to sculpture, printmaking, photography, digital media, and conceptual installations. The programme encourages independent thinking and supports students in developing projects from initial concept to final outcome in the medium of their choice. By mastering fundamental skills, solving creative challenges, and reflecting critically on their process, students learn to articulate their ideas with confidence and authenticity. Each year, the Diploma Programme students present their ambitious artworks, marking a significant milestone in their artistic development and contributing to a long-standing cultural tradition within the school’s history.

This year represents a historic premiere. For the first time since the school’s founding, the IB Diploma Programme Visual Arts Exhibition is presented beyond the school campus and into the City of Vienna. Hosted at WUK – kunsthalle exnergasse, the exhibition opens these works to a wider public audience and situates student creativity within Vienna’s vibrant cultural landscape.

The decision to move the exhibition into the city reflects a commitment to recognising the remarkable achievements of the students while also contributing meaningfully to the Viennese community that has long welcomed and supported the school. It marks an important moment of connection between emerging young artists and the broader artistic environment of Vienna.

Visitors will encounter more than 100 artworks, each the result of sustained inquiry, experimentation, and refinement. The works explore themes of identity, global perspectives, social questions, and personal narratives, revealing both technical accomplishment and conceptual depth.

More than an exhibition, this event represents over four decades of artistic tradition, a testament to the enduring value of arts education and to the generations of students whose creativity has shaped and defined the Visual Arts legacy at Vienna International School.

The Vienna International School (VIS), founded in 1978 to serve Vienna’s UN and diplomatic communities, is an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) school offering the Primary Years, Middle Years, and Diploma Programmes. It has over 1,400 students from more than 110 nationalities. VIS is known for academic excellence, with over 95% of students completing the IB Diploma and continuing to higher education. The school is also recognized for sustainability, becoming Austria’s first International Eco School through Eco Schools, Global Schools, and Umweltzeichen.
