Chinah, Gundelach, Axel Flóvent, Have You Ever Seen The Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS?
Following the sold-out 2016 edition last winter, the JA JA JA Festival for Nordic music now returns to WUK, presented by Radio FM4 & The Gap. Seven years after the first Scandinavian expedition, we invite you once again to discover new, largely still rather unknown artists from Iceland, Norway, Finland, and Denmark. An atmospheric aurora borealis spanning the complete spectrum between melancholy and hedonism!
Have You Ever Seen The Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS from Finland mix garage rock, doo wop, and 80s dream pop. In the last months they’ve landed on diverse festival stages all across Europe. The members of the trio CHINAH from Denmark were inspired by completely different genres such as folk, classic, and jazz, but they find their common ground in electro-pop. Sweet melodies, relaxed vocals, and honest lyrics meet a powerful live performance. Gundelach from Norway might draw comparisons with big names like Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada, but their sound is one that’s all their own, with texts both delicate and profound. In the last monthsGundelach’s singles topped the charts on blogs like Hype Machine, and they count amongst the most exciting newcomers of the year on Spotify, Tidal, and Apple Music. The line-up of this year’s festival is rounded out with the Icelander Axel Flóvent. Sedate, harmonious modern folk, acoustic and understated to the core, with influences of indie rock and electro pop.
