AKN
Alternative Community for the Physically Disabled and Able-Bodied
We are a group of people that organise a meeting point for contact between the physically disabled and the able-bodied. Our aim is integration: the deconstruction of fear thresholds in encounters between the able and disabled. But our aim is also, and above all, to have fun with one another.
The AKN has a room in WUK, with a wheelchair accessible entrance, which is used for all kinds of different events, such as lectures, courses, drawing, painting, pottery, parties and much more.
Also activities outside of WUK, like city walks and excursions to the movies or a museum, are in our programme. Additionally, quite often joint summer vacations and weekend activities with participants from all over Austria take place.
The AKN was formed in 1977 based on the example of the British PHAB association (Physically Handicapped and Able-Bodied).
Our doors are open for the interested, and we’re always happy to see new faces!
